Huck
NA Prize 1
NA Prize 1
Huck comes from our Willow/Sage 2024 NAVHDA NA Breeder's Award litter. (Breeder's Award is pending as of this writing but the litter has qualified for it.) Huck's father Sage, has had an incredible career making some fantastic puppies. We hope to continue that with Huck. Huck was my pick of the litter from our third pairing of Sage and Willow. The previous two litters had shown me I needed to keep these genetics in our program. See Sage and Willow's pages for description of why they are special and why this pairing made something extra special.
If you are looking for a stud, consider this genetic potential; Huck was my pick of the litter from a NAVHDA NA Breeder's Award litter from a three time repeat breeding. The 6 puppies NAVHDHA NA tested in his litter scored an average of 106 points out of a possible 112 points. Huck's mother, grandmother, and great grandmother all produced NAVHDA NA Breeder's Awards in our breeding program. Huck's father, Sage has produced 6 (2 qualified but still pending) NAVHDA NA Breeder's Awards. Huck's grandfather produced 1 NAVHDA NA Breeder's Award litter.
Huck has a harsh outer coat and dense undercoat. His coat is so harsh that I can simply wipe burrs off his body hair with my hands. A quick combing takes the burrs out of his beard and ears. Clean up after hunting takes less than a minute for Huck. His coat was judged as dense and harsh by the NAVHDA judges. Lots of breeders claim dense harsh coats, but the NAVHDA judging establishes if it is truly dense and harsh.
Huck is super athletic. He is a joy to watch run in the field. He jumps up on the training table like there is no such thing as gravity, landing so softly that it's hard to figure out how he does it. He is snappy and quick.
He is very intense on birds and very affectionate in the house.
Huck is very biddable. He is good with kids, cats, other dogs...gentle with the grandkids at toddler age. He loves attention and is very affectionate.
He loves to carry stuff around and give it to you. His retrieves are enthusiastic and he often leaps over obstacles while retrieving birds instead of taking the easy way around.
He has been pointing birds since very young.
He loves the water. He gets in the water just because it's there. He was voluntarily entering the water at 8 weeks old with no prompting by us. He just thought it looked like a good idea so he did it.
In the field, Huck is bold, intense, flashy, and athletic with stylish points.
He honors other dogs' points naturally.
In his first year, he has been solidly pointing hungarian partridge, sharptail grouse, ruffed grouse, and pheasant. He has retrieved all of these upland birds and is also enthusiastically retrieving ducks and geese. He seems to have his daddy's love for waterfowl.
Huck's Pennhip is excellent at R.22 and L.24.
Huck is 61 lbs and 23" at the shoulder.
Huck has really nice tight feet. If you have ever paid much attention to dog feet, you know great feet when you see them. He's got them.
I ran him in his NAVHDA Natural Ability test at 6 months old and at 15 months old and he scored 108 out of possible 112 points each time. (Prize 1 and Prize 2) I'll take the blame for a handler error for his lost points.
We have begun his training for his NAVHDA UT test. He is going to be a really fun dog to train for this. His desire to please is so high and his enthusiasm is incredible.
Huck's DNA is registered with NAVHDA.
Huck has hit the benchmarks I wanted to see to be the next generation stud in our program. He'll be ready to get to work passing on his genetics later in 2025.
If you have a female you are interested in breeding to Huck, let's talk.
