Huck comes from our Willow/Sage 2024 litter. Huck's father Sage, has had an incredible career making some fantastic puppies. We hope to continue that with Huck. Huck was my pick of the litter from our third pairing of Sage and Willow. The previous two litters had shown me I needed to keep these genetics in our program. See Sage and Willow's pages for description of why they are special and why this pairing made something extra special.
Huck has a harsh outer coat and dense undercoat. His coat is so harsh that I can simply wipe burrs off his body hair with my hands. A quick combing takes the burrs out of his beard and ears. Clean up after hunting takes less than a minute for Huck.
He is very intense on birds and very affectionate in the house. Good with kids, cats, other dogs...
He loves to carry stuff around and give it to you. He loves the water. He gets in the water just because it's there.
He has been pointing birds and swimming voluntarily since very young.
In the field, Huck is bold, intense, flashy, and athletic with stylish points.
In his first year, he has been solidly pointing hungarian partridge, sharptail grouse, ruffed grouse, and pheasant. He has retrieved all of these upland birds and is also enthusiastically retrieving ducks and geese. He seems to have his daddy's love for waterfowl.
Huck's Pennhip is excellent at R.22 and L.24.
I ran him in his NAVHDA Natural Ability test at 6 months old and he scored 108 out of possible 112 points. (I'll take the blame for a handler error for his lost points.)
Huck has hit the benchmarks I wanted to see to be the next generation stud in our program. He'll be ready to get to work passing on his genetics summer of 2025. If you have a female you are interested in breeding to Huck, let's talk.

Huck at 5 months old (left) pointing a wild pheasant. Sage (right) honoring Huck's point. Finn at 3 months old (middle)... I won't say he's honoring yet, but he saw Dad pointing and stopped and watched without moving.
Huck at 5 months retrieving a bird he just pointed for me and let me walk in front to shoot.
Left photo: Finn at 4 months on left, Huck on right at 7 months with sharptail
Middle photo: Sage (L) Finn (middle) and Huck (R) all solidly pointing a wild rooster.
Bottom photo: Sage and Huck letting themselves be crawled on...They really do have a nice temperament in the house.
Both pups were really showing me a tremendous start. It was a tough choice!
